A Novel Azeotropic Mixture for Solvent Extraction of
نویسندگان
چکیده
Hexane, the common solvent for extraction of edible oils from seeds is no more considered safe due to the presence of solvent in oil and also solvent vapour, a hazardous air pollutant. We have carried out the experiments with bahera (Terminalia bellerica Roxb) and flax seed (Linum usitatissimum ) oil as these oils are highly used in food for their nutraceutical values. The extraction of edible oil was performed with different solvents and their azeotropic mixtures such as azeotrope solvent Ethyl acetate + water (91.53%+8.47%) and Ethanol + water (95.4% +4.4%). Of many protic organic solvents such as methanol, ethanol, isopropanol and ethyl acetate, mixture of ethanol and ethyl acetate were found to be of advantageous as organic impurities are minimum compare to absolute non-protic organic solvent extracted oil. The oil extraction was temperature dependent. The properties such as refractive index, density, saponifiation and free fatty acid values were also affected by type of solvent used in the extraction process.

Mixed-Polarity Azeotropic Solvents for Efficient Extraction of Lipids from Nannochloropsis Microalgae
Problem statement: The extraction of lipids from microalgae for biofuel production is a significant problem due to the intractability of their cell wall. The aim of this study of lipid extraction from Nannochloropsis microalgae was to examine the relative efficiencies of some commonly used solvent systems and test the use of co-boiling solvents in Soxhlet extraction as an improved method. Appro...
متن کاملMicrowave-assisted extraction and accelerated solvent extraction with ethyl acetate-cyclohexane before determination of organochlorines in fish tissue by gas chromatography with electron-capture detection.
Focused open-vessel microwave-assisted extraction (FOV-MAE), closed-vessel microwave-assisted extraction (CV-MAE), and accelerated solvent extraction (ASE) were used for extraction before determination of organochlorine compounds (polychlorinated biphenyls, DDT, toxaphene, chlordane, hexachlorobenzene, hexachlorocyclohexanes, and dieldrin) in cod liver and fish fillets. Wet samples were extract...
متن کاملExtractive Distillation of Acetic Acid from its Dilute Solution using Lithium Bromide
Separation and purification are an integral part and a major cost factor in the chemical industry. Distillation is a very commonly used for solvent separation and purification process. It is neither cost effective nor process efficient when dealing with close-boiling and azeotropic solvent mixtures without modifying the relative volatility of the solvent components with an extraneous solvent or...
متن کاملDetermination of Amphetamine and Methamphetamine by Dispersive Liquid Phase Micro-extraction: A Novel Experimental Approach
Background: A syringe to syringe dispersive liquid phase micro-extraction-floating organic drop was applied and used for the simultaneous extraction and pre-concentration of trace amounts of amphetamine (AMP) and methamphetamine (MAMP) in urine samples. The extracted analytes were determined by high performance liquid chromatography along with diode array detection. Materials & Methods: In thi...
متن کاملSeparation of Manganese and Iron from Reductive Leaching Liquor of Electric Arc Furnace Dust of Ferromanganese Production Units by Solvent Extraction
Electric arc furnace dust (EAFD) of ferromanganese production units, in the form of slurry, contains tar, alkalies, manganese, zinc, iron, silica, calcium, aluminum and other elements. A hydrometallurgical route based on solvent extraction technique was investigated for selective separation of manganese from the dust. Leaching of the EAFD resulted in an aqueous feed containing 4 g/L of manganes...
